USAID PARTNERS STEERING COMMITTEE FOR SUCCESSFUL BENUE YOUTH SUMMIT
The United States Agency for International Development, USAID is to partner with the Benue State Steering Committee for the execution of the proposed Benue Youth Summit.Deputy Chief of Party Rufus Idris in a meeting with the Chairman and Secretary as well as other members of the committee said the USAID intends to train the youths in agriculture and agriculture investment including facilitation of funding, loans and grants.Mrs. Esther Aina, Benue State Agribusiness Coordinator and Mrs. Doofan Igonor represented the Deputy Chief of Party in the meeting which was held at Benue Peoples House Makurdi.Chairman of the steering committee, Mr. Dave Ogbole said Police brutality was only a trigger point for the protests by youths in Nigeria, saying Benue takes the lead in a well organised youth summit aimed at permanently addressing the concerns of the youth.He stated that the summit would feature 50 delegates each from the 23 local government areas with other contingents drawn from youth in agriculture, technology, entertainment and sports, entrepreneurship and people living with disabilities among others.According to Ogbole, the summit would also feature Benue born Innocent Idibia, aka 2face Idibia and Kidwaya and at the end, the youth would present their position to state actors for possible legislation where necessary as well as implementation.Jimin Geoffrey,Chairman Media & Publicity Subcommittee
