The Catholic Bishop of Bauchi Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Hilary Nanman Dachelem has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently address youth unemployment in the country.
The Bishop also called on the president to fine-tune solutions to agitation by various groups especially separatist which is threatened the unity of Nigeria.
According to him, engaging the youths will help reduce crime in the society and nip the current challenges facing the nation in the bud.
Bishop Nanman Dachelem who spoke with journalist in an interview at the St. John Catholic Cathedral, Bauchi opined that the youths should be included in decision making and implementation process.
Speaking on insecurity, the Catholic Bishop Most Rev. Dr. Hilary Dachelem, CMF lamented that Nigeria is gradually collapsing due to the incompetence of its leaders while urging the President to do the needful.
He also decried the rising spate of killings and abductions across the country describing it as worrisome.
“There were pockets of issues but they were not too overwhelming. Those who were into crime and criminality were very insignificant compared to the entire number but now, I don’t know if majority of us are criminals, more or less” he said.
Speaking further, the Prelate stressed that, “This is certainly not the Nigeria we used to know when we were growing up, we are facing a different Nigeria. The Nigeria we used to know was free country and it was not as if there was no crime then but it was minimal and not at the alarming rate as it is now.”
He also blamed both the leadership and followership for the ugly state of affairs in the country but pointed out that 60 percent of the problems have to do with the “incompetence, laissez-faire attitude, neglect and levity” of those steering the ship of the nation.
On national security, he explained that Nigeria “is a nation that has collapsed. If it is not collapsing, let them handle the issues. Is your child among the Greenland University that was kidnapped? I am sure some have two children or even more, if your child is in the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka, you will never ask me whether Nigeria is collapsing. Nigeria is collapsing! It is almost a nation that is moribund with the way it is going.”
