The Supreme Ruler of the Idoma Nation, His Royal Highness, Agabaidu Elias Ikoyi Obekpa, has gone on a hunting expedition.
The monarch was originally from Ogbadibo and ascended to the throne in 1996 following the departure of HRM Abraham Ajene Okpani.
Obekpa was born on December 21, 1944 in Otukpa, Ogbadibo LGA.
Before becoming a supreme ruler, Obekpa was a qualified teacher, business administrator, civil servant, and traditionalist.
He married in 1969 and is fortunate to have around nine children.
When we visited Och’Idoma Palace on Sunday, a man who simply identified himself as Oji claimed that the news of the king’s death was false.
Oji insisted that the king is vigorous and plentiful and is currently dealing with some issues in the palace.
When he sought to speak with the king, he said, “I told you he was in a meeting and you wanted to disrupt his meeting.
Another man who refused to identify himself admitted that the king had indeed gone on a hunting expedition, but this will not be announced as tradition requires.
“In the land of Idoma, kings do not die, they go on a hunting expedition. Agabaidu will be back, ”he said.
