GEORGE ALLI’S SECURITY ACHIEVEMENTS AS OTUKPO LOCAL GOVERNMENT CHAIRMAN

A lot have been said and written about the man, Rt. Hon. George Alli, and his modest achievements as Otukpo Local Govwrnment Chairman. Recently my brother, Ernest Tortiv, took his time to highlight some of Hon. Alli’s achievements in Education and Healthcare Delivery.

Today, one area of his achievement which I also want to bring to our attention is SECURITY.
This is because according to the Chairman himself; “I made it known to everyone that my administration’s policy trust will be centred around security and environmental sanitation”.

Security is very important to the growth and development to society and to our nation. As our nation struggles against the ugly tide of insecurity which is today confronting us, it is important to bring us to reminder on some of the things Hon. George Alli did to minimize insecurities in Otukpo.

Before he assumed office, Otukpo local government towns and villages, like most cities in Nigeria, was encumbered with myriads of security challenges, ranging from cultism; gang related violence; armed robbery; kidnapping; burglary and so on.

After a careful study and analysis of the situation Hon. Alli swung into action. First, he began holding periodic meetings and wide consultations with various stakeholders which includes traditional rulers; religious leaders: with security agencies which included the Nigerian Police Force; the DSS, Civil Defence, sometimes with the Nigerian soldiers, Nigerian Vigilante Groups and the Homeland Defence.

The Chairman got the Local vigilante Groups and the Homeland Defense team together, to work with the Nigerian Police since they understood the local terrain better. He followed it up with the donation of a service truck to them to aid their movement from one point to another as the need arises. The Chairman again, in 2019 donated a refurbished Hilux to the Nigerian Police(SARS UNIT) in Otukpo. These efforts paid off as the local
