MOTION CALLING ON THE STATE GOVERNMENT TO TAKE PROACTIVE STEPS TO END THE ONGOING ATTACKS AND KILLING OF THE PEOPLE OF OKPOMAJU IN OKETE WARD, OTUKPO LOCAL GOVERNMENT BY FULANI HERDSMEN

The House:

Notes: with great concern the escalating violence and sporadic killings of some of my constituents, the people of Okpomaju in Okete Ward Otukpo Local Government since Wednesday, 5th February, 2025.

Further notes: that some of the missing children are yet to be found and the entire people in the community are apprehensive of their lives.

Informed that: frantic efforts were made to put the security agencies at alert since one week ago with the view to spurring them to beef up security in the community, but that effort did not receive adequate response. Alas! The entire Community was almost overrun.

Worried: that since the Fulani invasion has become a recurring decimal in the State, as a matter of urgency; we need to rise to the occasion as the representatives of the people. I am afraid that the entire State may be overrun by the dreaded herdsmen in no distant time if we don’t show genuine and purposeful leadership.

Resolves:
i. That the State Government should take immediate and decisive action to end the ongoing genocide in Okpomaju community of Okete Ward, Otukpo Local Government Area.
ii. That the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies should be deployed to Okpomaju Community to restore peace and order.
iii. That the State Government should develop a comprehensive policy framework to combat the herdsmen menace in the State.
iv. That the perpetrators of this heinous crime be brought to book without further delay.
