In a heartfelt tribute to one of Benue State’s most revered medical pioneers, the Dr. Obe Charity Foundation has announced the launch of a motivational novel titled “The Joy of Being Hurt.” The event aims to commemorate the legacy of the late Dr. Edwin Idoko Obe and raise funds for the foundation established in his honour.
Dr. Obe, the first medical doctor from Benue State and founder of Salem Hospital Otukpo, was renowned for his philanthropic spirit and commitment to providing free medical care for those unable to pay Though he passed away in 2013, his legacy lives on through the efforts of his daughter, a Nigerian-American nurse, and her sister, a retired FCDA medical officer.
“My father believed in service to humanity above all,” said the founder of the Foundation. “This Foundation was established to carry forward his passion—to reach underserved populations with emergency medical support when primary care fails.”
The book “The Joy of Being Hurt,” published by Trilogy Christian Publishing, draws from the founder’s personal life story. It is a motivational novel suitable for readers of all ages, particularly young adults and individuals who have faced life’s setbacks. “Anyone who has failed in life in the past can benefit from the motivational quotes and messages passed through the book,” she added.
