Recent reports indicate that the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee on Rivers State has raised concerns over an allocation of N24 billion for the installation of CCTV systems at the Rivers State Government House in the proposed 2025 budget.
Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd) is the current Sole Administrator of Rivers State, appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after a state of emergency was declared in the state on March 18, 2025.
During a budget defense session, the committee, chaired by Hon. Julius Ihonvbere, queried this allocation along with N30 billion for gunboats and N23 billion for contingency reserves, demanding a detailed breakdown and justification within 48 hours.
The Senior Special Assistant on Strategy and Policy, Mr. Andrew Nweke, representing the Sole Administrator, stated that the N24 billion for CCTV was necessary for modern security surveillance at the Governor’s office and assured the committee that all requested documents would be provided.
