A Magistrate Court in Ikorodu, Lagos, has ordered that DNA tests be conducted on Liam Aloba, the son of the late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad. The court issued the directive while ruling on an application filed by Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, who has long sought a paternity test.
The court ruled that two separate DNA tests should be conducted in an accredited and recognized hospital—one in Nigeria and one abroad. In his application, Mohbad’s father stated that the paternity of Liam Aloba remains uncertain, making the test essential to conclusively settle the matter.
The late singer’s wife, Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, was named as the respondent in the application. Joseph Aloba has expressed his desire to clear the air surrounding his grandson’s paternity and has previously expressed willingness to accept the outcome of the DNA test.
The paternity of Mohbad’s son has been a subject of widespread speculation and controversy, particularly on social media, since the singer’s death in September 2023.
The paternity issue has been a point of contention between Mohbad’s father and his widow, with both sides engaging in public disputes. The widow, Omowunmi, has previously agreed to a DNA test to clear her name but cited delays due to disagreements over the choice of the medical facility.
Earlier court efforts to serve notice of a pending DNA test application to Mohbad’s wife proved difficult, leading the court to order a substituted means of service by posting the documents to her last known address.
Despite previous court delays and online speculation, the court’s latest order moves the process forward, as the legal and administrative procedures for the DNA tests are now in place. The results of these tests will finally address the lingering questions about Liam’s paternity and, potentially, bring some clarity to the grieving family and the public.
