“we won’t bow to arrogance, November convention will hold” – PDP governors tell Wike group

Amid a festering internal dispute, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has declared that the party’s planned November 2025 national convention will proceed despite demands and conditions issued by a rival faction led by Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The governors’ hardline stance was voiced by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed at the inauguration of the convention’s planning committee on Tuesday in Abuja. The PDP’s leadership, including National Chairman Umar Damagum, also warned that it would not tolerate any actions intended to undermine the convention.

The “Eminent Leaders and Concerned Stakeholders” group, allied with Wike, issued a list of six conditions for their support of the convention.

These include:

✔️Conducting fresh congresses in Ebonyi and Anambra states.

✔️Recognizing the outcome of the South-South congress held in Calabar.

✔️Maintaining the national chairmanship in the North-central, in line with the 2021 zoning agreement.

In a direct rebuttal, Governor Mohammed stated that the governors would not be intimidated. “We are not afraid of anybody. We are capable of navigating this party beyond the shenanigans, arrogance, and impunity of others,” he said.

The governors stressed that “discipline” was the new watchword and warned that nobody would be allowed to “take us for granted” any longer.

The deep rift within the PDP dates back to the 2023 elections, when Wike and the G-5 governors broke ranks and worked against the party’s presidential candidate. Wike has since been rewarded with a ministerial appointment in the APC administration.

The outcome of this showdown will test the party’s cohesion and its ability to present a united front ahead of the 2027 general elections.
