Yours Sincerely was privileged to have been nominated to attend the ongoing SOUTHERN SUMMIT OF FORMER LEGISLATORS, 2025! The summit held at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta, Ogun State!

I was amongst the 19 former legislators nominated from the 19 Northern states to witness proceedings of the historic summit. The summit was attended by Councillors from the Southern LGCs, Southern lawmakers from the state and National Assemblies.

The summit endorsed President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 Presidential Election. Participants insisted that the Presidency should remain in the South for eight years after which the North will have it in 2031. They also opined that a second term for Tinubu will deepen the unity of Nigeria and enable him to consolidate on his economic reforms for the good of country!

The Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun was the chief host. He noted that the former lawmakers at the summit can be catalysts for unity and hence the participation of former legislators from the LGCs to the state and the National Assembly. He charged the audience to spread the renewed hope agenda and ensure that the presidency remains in the South, stressing that “Tinubu must do eight years as president for national stability and you lawmakers can spread this resolution…”

The occasion was chaired by a former Senate President, His Excellency, Chief Ken Nnamani. Former Speakers of House of Representatives, RT HON Yakubu Dogara and RT Hon. Patricia Ette delivered key notes address. Former House of Representatives Speaker and current Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Chief Femi Gbajabiamilla is the convener. Serving Ministers, heads of FG agencies, APC chieftains, former Ministers and top government functionaries across the country were in attendance.

Gbajabiamilla who delivered the chief key note address said he was honored to be the convener of the summit. He spoke on national unity, which he emphatically declared was a catalyst for national development. He said the summit was timely and appealed to the former lawmakers to continue to be committed to the unity and progress of Nigeria. He also urged the former lawmakers to support the Tinubu administration. While praising the President whom he stressed was drawing from the pool of former lawmakers, he noted that the president appointed 17 former legislators in the Federal Executive Council, a feat he said was unprecedented!

It was a robust, frank and multiparty interaction ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The summit afforded me the opportunity to reunite with colleagues of the 9th Assembly , as well as, my friends and leaders in the Lagos/Ibadon press axis.
