Operation Zenda Foils Robbery Plot, Arrests Suspect in Gboko
Operatives of Operation Zenda Joint Task Force (JTF) have foiled a planned armed robbery attack in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State, arresting one suspect and recovering dangerous weapons.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Udeme Edet, obtained by Citizen Television, the operation took place at about 11:00 p.m. on Friday, 12th September 2025, following credible intelligence that a gang of armed robbers was regrouping at a hideout in Gboko East to launch attacks on designated areas.
The JTF operatives swiftly moved to the location and apprehended one suspect, identified as Liambe Orpine, 35, of Anvambe in Buruku LGA, while other members of the gang fled on sighting the police.
Recovered from the hideout were one AK-47 rifle, one jack knife, and three locally fabricated Dane guns. The suspect is currently in custody, while efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing gang members.
The police confirmed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Innocent Ifeanyi Emenari, commended the gallantry of the Operation Zenda operatives and reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to rid the state of criminals. He further urged members of the public to continue providing timely and useful information to aid security operations.
