Panic erupted in Owukpa, Ogbadibo LGA of Benue State, on Thursday after a mentally ill suspect allegedly hacked a man to death in Ipiege–Igah-Uroko.
The assailant, said to have trekked from Otukpa-Ukalegu, attacked the victim with a machete before destroying property.
Enraged youths retaliated by burning down his house and nearby buildings. Security operatives have moved in to restore calm, while community leaders urged peace and consoled the bereaved family.
