ONE ARRESTED AS POLICE HUNT KÏLLERS OF BENUE APC CHIEFTAIN, EJEH IJACHI

The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the assassination of All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Ejeh Ijachi, in Ugboju, Otukpo Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson, DSP Udeme Edet, said on Monday evening that operatives apprehended one of the alleged assailants after launching a manhunt shortly after the attack.

“Yes, the incident occurred and one suspect has been arrested and is in custody. Investigation is ongoing to track down the remaining suspects,” Edet stated.

The arrest followed the earlier confirmation by Otukpo Council Chairman, Maxwell Ogiri, who condemned the killing and pledged support for security agencies to ensure justice.

Ijachi was ambushed and shot dead in the early hours of Monday by gunmen who reportedly trailed him home after an outing. Eyewitnesses said the attackers arrived on motorcycles and fired at close range.

Police disclosed that the arrested suspect is undergoing interrogation while efforts intensify to capture other members of the gang.
