Nigeria at 65: Senator Abba Moro expresses optimism for a better country

As Nigeria marks her 65th independence anniversary on October 1, the senator representing Benue South Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, Comrade Abba Moro PhD, has expressed optimism that the country would work for all.

While speaking on the anniversary in his office on Tuesday, Senator Moro acknowledged that Nigeria had not gotten to where it ought to be at 65 but said the country had definitely moved from where it was. He said the country would work and provide better opportunities for Nigerians.

The senator charged government at all levels to do those things that bring the country together and do away with those things that divide the country.

He appealed to political actors to deescalate tension and put the peace and unity of the country ahead of any personal interest. He said nobody would be anything without a country and enjoined all Nigerians to join hands together, irrespective of tribe, religion and political party, to work for the good of the country.

On the security challenge plaguing the country, Senator Moro said all the necessary support and collaborations needed by the executives to fight insecurity were being given by the senate.

His words;

“The legislature is handicapped in the fight against insecurity. We can only make resolutions and appropriate monies to fight insecurity and that we have been doing.

“My attitude has been that once someone is given the mandate to rule, the person should be given the necessary support to succeed, because if the government succeed, it’s the people that succeed. So, we are giving the president all the necessary support and I’m hopeful that insecurity in the country will be nipped in the bud”, he stated.

Senator Moro wished the country a happy 65th independence anniversary.
