Tinubu will never support kıłlıngs of Christians” – Wike rejects Trump’s invasion talk, defends Tinubu
Amid recent tensions following an alleged threat by U.S. President Donald Trump to launch military action in Nigeria over the killings of Christians, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike called for national unity and condemned those who seemed to welcome foreign intervention.
Wike emphasized that all Nigerians share a single nation and should not celebrate the idea of an external invasion, regardless of their political or religious grievances. He also defended the current administration’s stance on religious tolerance.
Wike’s full quote was: “Nigerians should know that We have only one country and shouldn’t celebrate Donald Trump’s threat of invading Nigeria because Tinubu will never support killings of Christians”.
The statement came after Donald Trump declared Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern (CPC)” due to alleged “Christian genocide” and publicly stated he would instruct the U.S. “Department of War to prepare for possible action,” including potential “guns-a-blazing” strikes against “Islamic Terrorists”.
Wike’s comments were part of a broader national conversation where political figures and citizens debated the implications of Trump’s threat and the appropriate response from the Nigerian government, with many stressing the importance of national sovereignty and peaceful dialogue to address internal security challenges.
