As Nigeria reels from a fresh wave of violence (schoolgirls abducted in Kebbi, a senior army officer killed in Borno, and worshippers gunned down in a Kwara church), Pastor David Ibiyeomie, founder of the fast-growing Salvation Ministries in Port Harcourt, has delivered one of the strongest spiritual rebukes yet against the country’s criminals.
Speaking to thousands in his congregation and millions more watching online, the outspoken cleric placed a direct curse on anyone who dares harm his members or their families.
His full declaration: “Any kidnapper who dared you before dies in seven days. Any kidnapper that dares your life between now and Sunday, I declare them dead! Anyone that dares any member of Salvation Ministries or any of our loved ones dies. Any assassin that dares you dies.
Any ritualist that dares you dies. Any hoodlum that dares you dies. Anyone planning your downfall falls for your sake. I curse every plan of the wicked against you. Let the judgment of God come upon every force of wickedness in the name of Jesus!”
The video has spread rapidly across social media, drawing mixed reactions. Many of his followers see it as a bold act of spiritual warfare in a nation where citizens increasingly feel abandoned by the state. Others have criticised the tone, arguing that fiery pronouncements alone cannot replace the urgent need for better security.
Either way, in a week when grief and anger are boiling over, Pastor Ibiyeomie’s seven-day ultimatum has become the latest symbol of a country searching for protection (whether from government forces or from above).
