Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has strongly dismissed claims of a Christian genocide in Nigeria, asserting that such allegations are baseless and untrue. Speaking at a recent press briefing in Makurdi, Governor Alia emphasized that in his state, there is no evidence of any form of religious, ethnic, racial, national, or state-sponsored genocide.

The governor stated emphatically: “In my state of Benue, we don’t have any religious, any ethnic, any racial, any national or state genocide. We don’t have that.” He described reports suggesting otherwise as misleading and politically motivated, stressing that Benue remains a state where diverse communities coexist peacefully.

Governor Alia further called on Nigerians and international observers to verify facts before jumping to conclusions that could inflame tension or spread fear. He assured that the state government remains committed to protecting the lives and properties of all residents, irrespective of their religion or ethnicity.

His comments come amid growing national and international debates over security challenges in Nigeria, with some critics alleging targeted attacks against Christians in certain regions. The governor’s statement marks a firm rebuttal, asserting that such narratives do not reflect the reality on the ground in Benue State.
