A health worker identified as Mr. Emie has been gruesomely murdered by suspected armed herdsmen in Ikobi community of Apa Local Government Area, Benue State.
The tragic incident occurred on Monday morning at Ugbobi Junction, a notorious flashpoint along the Ikobi–Olegogba axis of the Ikobi–Ugbokpo road, where residents have repeatedly reported attacks and ambushes by armed herders.
According to community sources, Emie, a father of three and resident of Oloke in Ikobi, was returning from Ugbokpo town where he had gone to purchase medicine when he was attacked.
The assailants reportedly macheted him to death, severed his head, and fled with it, leaving his headless body lying in a pool of blood by the roadside.
Residents later discovered the corpse and raised the alarm, throwing the community into mourning and fear.
Confirming the incident, the Vice President of the Ikobi Progressive Forum, Dr. Edoh Ofugocho, said residents became alarmed after hearing several gunshots from the area. He described the killing as barbaric and called on security agencies to urgently intervene and bring the perpetrators to justice.
As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
