CLAIM
A health worker simply identified as Mr. Emie was allegedly killed and beheaded by suspected armed herdsmen on Monday, June 8, 2026, at Ugbobi Junction in Ikobi community, Apa Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to the claim, the victim was returning from Ugbokpo town after purchasing medicine when he was ambushed by armed attackers who macheted him to death, severed his head, and fled with it, leaving his body by the roadside.
VERIFICATION/FINDINGS
Information obtained from community sources indicates that the incident occurred at Ugbobi Junction, a section of the Ikobi–Olegogba road that residents have repeatedly described as a security flashpoint due to recurring attacks on travellers.
Information gathered revealed that Mr. Emie is a father of three and resident of Oloke community in Ikobi. It added that he travelled to Ugbokpo to purchase medicine… (Is as patent dealer or just for his self treatment?)
According to eyewitness accounts and community reports, armed men allegedly attacked him along the route and slew him. His body was however later discovered lying in the pool of blood. Meanwhile, the head of his lifeless body was reportedly missing.
The discovery of the corpse triggered panic and grief within the community, with residents raising the alarm and calling for urgent security intervention.
Confirming the incident, the Vice President of the Ikobi Progressive Forum, Dr. Edoh Ofugocho, stated that residents became alarmed after hearing gunshots from the area. He condemned the killing describing it as barbaric and urged security agencies to identify and apprehend those responsible.
Community members have attributed the attack to suspected armed herdsmen, citing previous incidents along the same axis. However, no official security report had been released at the time of this report to independently confirm the identity of the perpetrators.

VERDICT
TRUE, WITH A CAVEAT
Available evidence from community sources and local leaders confirmed that Mr. Emie was killed in an attack along the Ikobi–Olegogba road and that his body was discovered without his head.
However, while residents and community leaders suspect armed herdsmen were responsible, the claim regarding the identity of the attackers remains unverified by security authorities as no official investigation report had been made public at the time of reporting.
Therefore, the killing and beheading of the health worker are substantiated, but the attribution of the attack to herdsmen remains an allegation pending official confirmation.
