“You Are a Failure” — Senator Abba Moro Blasts Governor Alia Over Otukpo-Nobi Killings, Offers to Pay Medical Bills For Alia Family Members

Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, Comrade Abba Patrick Moro, has launched a scathing attack on Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, over the recent deadly attacks on communities in Otukpo Local Government Area, particularly the massacre in Otukpo-Nobi.

Speaking while reacting to the wave of killings allegedly carried out by suspected armed Fulani herders, Moro accused the governor of failing in his constitutional responsibility to protect the lives and property of Benue residents, declaring that the state government had become reactive rather than proactive in addressing insecurity.

In a strongly worded statement, the senator reportedly described Governor Alia as “a failure” in handling the worsening security situation in Benue State.

Moro also challenged the governor with a controversial remark, saying he was prepared to personally settle the medical bills of the governor and his family if they could make themselves available for the same attacks being suffered by ordinary citizens.

“I am ready to pay the hospital bills for you and your family members if you can make yourselves available for attacks,” Moro was quoted as saying while criticising what he described as the government’s inability to provide adequate security for rural communities.

The senator argued that victims of the attacks are not seeking financial assistance after losing loved ones, but rather effective protection from repeated assaults.

According to him, communities in Benue South have continued to come under deadly attacks despite repeated warnings and intelligence reports, alleging that authorities failed to act before the killings occurred. He maintained that government officials should focus on preventing attacks instead of merely condemning them after lives have already been lost.

Moro further criticised the reported financial donations made to affected communities, insisting that no amount of money can replace lives lost to violence. He stressed that residents are demanding security, justice, and the restoration of peace rather than post-attack relief packages.

The latest exchange comes amid growing public outrage over the killings in Otukpo-Nobi, Akpachi-Ugboju, and other communities in Benue South, where dozens of residents have reportedly been killed in recent attacks blamed on suspected armed herders. The senator has repeatedly called on the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to protect vulnerable communities and bring perpetrators to justice.
