LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — President of the Idoma Community United Kingdom (ICUK), Chief Dr. Williams Obande Obeya, has expressed profound appreciation to Idoma sons and daughters across the United Kingdom for their contributions to the successful 2026 ICUK Convention.
In a goodwill message issued after the convention, Obeya described the success of the gathering as a collective achievement of the Idoma community in the UK, noting that the event demonstrated the strength of unity among the people.
The ICUK President commended those who travelled from different parts of the United Kingdom to attend the convention, as well as sponsors, volunteers, community leaders, elders, chiefs, women, youths, children, performers and others who contributed their time, resources and energy towards the success of the event.
According to him, the turnout and contributions from members of the community reaffirmed the convention’s theme, “Opiatoha Ofu – Unity is Strength.”
He stressed that every contribution, regardless of its size, played an important role in making the 2026 convention a memorable milestone for the Idoma community in the United Kingdom.
Obeya also acknowledged individuals who worked behind the scenes before, during and after the convention, stating that their efforts were instrumental in ensuring the smooth running of the event.
He said the convention had demonstrated what could be achieved when Idoma people put aside their differences and unite around a common purpose.
“The convention has shown what is possible when we put aside our differences and come together with one purpose: to build a stronger, more united and progressive Idoma community in the United Kingdom and to contribute meaningfully to the development of our people at home,” he said.
The ICUK President, however, noted that the successful convention should not be regarded as the end of the journey but rather the beginning of a new chapter for the Idoma community.
He called for sustained efforts towards strengthening unity, preserving the Idoma language and culture, supporting communities, empowering young people and contributing to the development of Idoma land.
“Thank you for believing in ICUK. Thank you for showing up. Thank you for giving your time, resources and energy. Above all, thank you for demonstrating that when Idoma people come together, indeed, Opiatoha Ofu,” Obeya stated.
He concluded by praying for God’s blessings upon every family represented at the convention, their businesses and careers, while calling for continued unity across the Idoma nation.
