“Connections Don’t Win Elections, The People Do” — Prince Edwin Ochai Urges Candidates to Earn Voters’ Trust

President of the Idoma Association USA, Prince Edwin Ochai, has cautioned candidates contesting various positions in the upcoming elections against relying solely on political connections and relationships with influential individuals.

Ochai noted that knowing powerful people or being connected to those at the top does not automatically translate into electoral victory, stressing that true leadership is ultimately determined by the people.

According to him, voters make their decisions based on a candidate’s character, pedigree, competence, track record and manifesto, rather than merely on who they know or the political connections they possess.

“While connections can create opportunities, they do not ensure success,” Ochai said, urging candidates to focus on earning the confidence and trust of the electorate.

He emphasized that citizens deserve leaders who can inspire confidence, articulate a clear vision and demonstrate the capacity to deliver meaningful results.

Ochai further urged candidates to engage directly with the people, communicate their ideas clearly and allow their records to speak for them.

He concluded by reminding politicians that the ultimate power in any election belongs to the people, adding that candidates must earn their trust rather than depend on connections to those in positions of influence.
