JOSTUM CRACKS DOWN: SIGNING-OUT ACTIVITIES BANNED, DEFAULTERS TO FACE SEVERE PUNISHMENT 

Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi (JOSTUM), has issued a stern warning to students, declaring that anyone caught engaging in signing-out activities will face harsh disciplinary measures.

In a statement released Friday, the Registrar and Secretary to Senate, Dr. John David, stressed that the institution will not tolerate acts that undermine its values or drag its image into disrepute.

He recalled that JOSTUM had already outlawed signing-out on February 15, 2025—weeks ahead of the Federal Government’s nationwide ban—describing the practice as a disruptive and undignified ritual.

“The so-called signing-out reduces a solemn academic milestone to reckless displays—scribbling on clothes, noisy parades, and disorderly conduct,” David declared. “Such behaviour has no place in this university.”

The statement further warned that defaulters risk immediate suspension, rustication, or the withholding of results and certificates. Staff and security have been directed to enforce the ban without compromise.

“Graduation is a moment of honour, not chaos,” the registrar maintained. “Any student who chooses to disregard this directive will bear the full weight of disciplinary action.”
