Yesterday, 16th October, 2025, marked the golden age of the Public Complaints Commission, generically known as the Ombudsman, which was established in Nigeria through Decree 31 of 1975, now CAP. P. 37, LFN.

It was celebration galoo as the staff of the Commission in Benue State, led by its Honourable Federal Commissioner, Rt. Hon.. Chief James Ogaba Oche, and in guardiance of the Police and the FRSC, staged a walk from Yina Junction to the Commission Secretariat along George Akume Way in Makurdii.

During the occasion, flyers on the activities of the Commission were distributed to the enthusiastic public who struggled to be part of the colourful celebration that was made possible through the untiring efforts of Honourable Bashir Abubakar who is the Honourable Chief Commissioner of the Commission nationally.

In an interview with the media at the Commission’s Secretariat at the end of the walk, Chief Oche informed the crew that the Commission had been established to investigate reactively and proactively cases on administrative injustice against the public perpetrated by both public and incorporated private organizations in Nigeria.

Furthermore, he, in his characteristic eloquence, informed the Media Crew of the increasing number of cases investigated and resolved by the Commission in Benue State, which he attributed to his awareness creation, synergy with relevant organizations as well as the recently established Enforcement Unit to enforce recommendations of the Commission and also prosecute recalcitrant parties.

In spite of unprecedented success recorded by the Commission in Benue State, Chief Oche noted that all hands needed to be on deck with the Commission for more success in delivering justice to victims of maladministration. He particularly stressed the need for more cooperation from some State organisations and resolution of complaints on non-payment of terminal benefits of retired civil servants in the State. He also decried poor infrastructures of the Commission, especially vehicles.

One of the highlights of the Celebration was handing over to a Complainant a sum of money that had been recovered from a Respondent.

On the team of Hon. Oche were Management of the Commission, led by the Acting Director of Investigation, Mr. Terkura Kpaakpa.
