UKPA – IBILLA CRISIS: THE ADMONITIONS OF A MOTHER.

HRM, Esther Oga Ero.
06/02/2021.

“The white man is very clever. He came quietly and peacefully with his religion. We were amused at his foolishness and allowed him to stay. Now he has won our brothers, and our clan can no longer act like one. He has put a knife on the things that held us together, and we have fallen apart. ”

These were the words of Chinua Achebe when at the earliest times, religion became a tool of separation in Nigeria.

Sadly, the ugly reality that stares us in the face as O’ligede is not religion. The dividing razor-sharp object that has torn us apart is an otherwise, harmless exercise designed by the Federal Government, to get the exact picture of O’ligede and his needs for a better federal presence.

Enumeration Area Demarcation by no means amounts to boundary adjustment, and it does not rest on the shoulders of the NPC to adjust boundaries. This simple understanding would have saved us from the untold mess we have found ourselves.

But age-long dark histories and sentiments whipped into the young ones by their fathers who should know better than this, that what binds us as one O’ligede is far richer and greater than what can separate us, we being children of one man, Agba has deprived us of our rational thoughts.

This is the most embarrassing time to be an O’ligede. It is most embarrassing because this is the 21 Century where even people that are not related in any way look for alignments and synergies to build empires. How much more, ‘ahi anyi ny’adida okpokpo.’ Who has bewitched us?

If we blame the outside world and government for not loving us enough, who do we blame for not loving ourselves?

The Oju township is being built by individuals from their sweat, and this has given us a facelift needing further government’s attention. But look at how little carelessness and hatred have brought us a century backward.

I beseech all those who fan the embers of disunity and beat the drums of war, whipping sentiments into the younger generation to desist forthwith, as there is a natural curse for such a person from both God Almighty and our ancestors.

Peace is all we need now, and that will be restored permanently in Jesus’ name.
