BENUE: CATHOLIC CHURCH LEADER K!LLED AS ARMED FULANI HERDSMEN ATTACKS GUMA COMMUNITY
A Catholic Church leader, Mr. Vitalis Kenvanger of St. Albert Catholic Church, Abata, Akeja Zone, Yogbo Mission, has been confirmed dead following a deadly early morning attack by suspected armed Fulani herdsmen along the Yogbo–Gungu Aze Road in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
The tragic incident, which occurred on Tuesday, also claimed the life of Mr. Dogo Udam, a prominent businessman based in Yogbo. Their bodies were recovered during a joint search operation carried out by security operatives and local youths in the area.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the attackers shockingly answered calls from the victims’ mobile phones shortly after the assault, confirming the deaths to worried family members.
Two others Mr. Iorember Famja and Mama Shiaondo of the Raav Clan remain missing as of the time of this report. It is yet to be determined whether they were killed or are hiding in the surrounding bushes to escape the violence.
The community has been thrown into mourning, with residents expressing fear and frustration over the recurring attacks in the area. Families are still combing the forests in search of missing loved ones, while calls for stronger security measures continue to mount.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the attack.
