Don’t contest 2027 or risk your legacy – Wike warns Jonathan

The Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, has advised ex-President Goodluck Jonathan not to contest in the 2027 presidential election. According to Wike, Jonathan has already built a strong global image as an international statesman, and returning to the battlefield of Nigerian politics could damage that legacy.

Wike reportedly told close associates that Jonathan should focus on his international assignments, where he is respected as a symbol of democracy. He warned that coming back into the rough game of Nigerian politics may turn his name into daily headlines for the wrong reasons.

This advice has triggered a heated online debate. Some say Wike is protecting Jonathan, while others think he’s just afraid of Jonathan’s possible comeback power.
