Obagaji, Agatu LGA — Grief enveloped the community of Obagaji, the headquarters of Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State this morning as the remains of five children — all from the same family — were laid to rest amid tears.
According to local sources, the children drowned after their boat capsized while returning from the farm earlier this week. Kudos to the villagers by whose efforts the bodies were recovered.
Residents described the incident as one of the most heartbreaking tragedies to befall the community in recent times. Community leaders have called for improved safety measures along the river routes frequently used by farmers and traders.
The family, relatives, and sympathizers gathered in sorrow as prayers were offered for the repose of the children’s souls.
