APC’s APPOINTMENT OF POINT MEN AND THE FEAR OF EGOISTIC AND SUPERIORITY CLASH

The APC’s appointment of point men recently by the Executive Governor of Benue state, His Excellency, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, PhD has raised concerns about egoistic and superiority displays, which can be detrimental or counterproductive to effective leadership. The fears being expressed by many is whether all party stakeholders in the 23 local government area of Benue state are subjective or answerable to the point men. Again, I’m afraid that the idea of appointing point men may result to daggerdrawn or loggerheads between them and local government chairmen. It’s even worse When individuals with high levels of narcissism are appointed to leadership positions. They often prioritize their own interests and display arrogance, which can lead to poor decision-making and alienate important allies. Narcissistic point men or women could undermine team cohesion, foster a culture of fear, and prioritize their own interests over the party’s goals or objectives.

These point men need to possess high emotional intelligence, which involves self-awareness, empathy, and social skills that will shape building strong relationships, manage conflicts, and make informed decisions.

In the context of the Benue APC, the appointment of point men with egoistic and superiority tendencies could exacerbate internal conflicts and undermine the party’s overall performance. It’s essential for the party leadership to prioritize emotional intelligence and humility in their appointments to ensure effective governance and maintain public trust. I’m not a soothsayer, but I have a premonition that some point men or women may clash with local government chairmen and commissioners soon. This move by the revered priest of God may trigger conflict that may be difficult to manage or resolve before 2027. Ego and entitlement mentality may result to clashes among APC stakeholders. Yes. Appointing point men for local government is a good idea, but it may cause more harm than good. It may generate political conflict that may not be resolved before 2027.

I heartily congratulate all the point men and wish them well.

2027 is pregnant!
