Nigerian political prophet Primate Elijah Ayodele has repeatedly declared that Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, will never become president. Ayodele claims this prediction was divinely revealed to him, stating, “Even with millions of Obidients… Never, says the Lord”.
Ayodele has issued similar prophecies leading up to the 2027 general election:
In July 2025, Ayodele warned Nigerians against voting for Obi, saying that doing so would lead to greater national trouble. He claimed that even if Obi’s followers numbered in the billions, it would not change his destiny.
The cleric has claimed that should Obi ascend to power, the country would be “turned upside down,” bringing instability rather than the solutions Nigerians seek.
The prophecies have stirred controversy and sparked backlash, particularly from Obi’s supporters, known as “Obidients”.
Ayodele is not alone in making political predictions in Nigeria, where the intersection of faith and politics is common. Religious leaders frequently make prophecies about electoral outcomes, often stirring public debate. However, Ayodele’s specific prophecies have also drawn criticism due to their potentially partisan nature.
