FACT CHECK: Were Several Residents Killed in Ankpali-Edikwu, Apa LGA of Benue State in April 2026 By Suspected Fulani Herdsmen ?

Reports of renewed killings in parts of Benue State recently sparked public concern and drew the attention of the Nigerian Senate. One of the claims was that several residents of Ankpali-Edikwu in Apa Local Government Area were killed in a fresh attack.

CLAIM

Several residents were killed in Ankpali-Edikwu, Apa LGA, Benue State, during an attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen in April 2026.

VERIFICATION

Credible reports confirmed a deadly attack in Ankpali-Edikwu community of Apa LGA.

A Channels Television report published on April 15, 2026, stated that nine persons were feared killed after suspected armed attackers invaded the community. The report added that many residents fled while security agencies were alerted.

Also, on April 22, 2026, the Nigerian Senate discussed the killings in Benue and specifically mentioned the killing of residents in Ankpali-Edikwu. Lawmakers called for urgent security intervention in Apa and other affected communities.

Also Amnesty International Nigeria condemned the killings and called for protection of residents in Benue communities.

VERDICT

TRUE.

Available evidence from credible media reports and public reactions confirms that residents were killed in Ankpali-Edikwu, Apa LGA of Benue State in April 2026. While exact casualty figures may differ across reports, the attack and resulting deaths were verified.
