ZONE C KILLINGS: Former Benue State Deputy Governor, Chief Engineer Benson Abounu, What we Should Do Differently

The incessant attacks by suspected Fulani militias and the unprovoked killings of our people across Benue South (Zone C) have become a matter of grave concern. The continuous loss of innocent lives on our ancestral lands is heartbreaking and unacceptable.

The recent wave of multiple killings has left families shattered, communities displaced, and residents living in constant fear. While security personnel often respond after these tragic incidents, such reactionary measures have done little to prevent further bloodshed.

According to former Deputy Governor of Benue State, Chief Engineer Benson Abounu, the time has come to move beyond responding to attacks after they occur. Greater emphasis should be placed on intelligence gathering, early warning systems, and proactive security measures aimed at preventing these attacks before they happen.

Protecting lives must remain the highest priority. Timely intelligence, effective coordination among security agencies, and decisive preventive action are essential if the cycle of violence is to be broken.

As the saying goes, “A stitch in time saves nine.” Benue’s people deserve to live in peace, security, and dignity. Preventing these senseless killings is far better than counting casualties after each attack.
