Fact Check: Has INEC Officially Published the Final List of Candidates for the 2027 General Elections?

Claim

Posts circulating on social media claim that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially published the final list of candidates for the 2027 General Elections, with some users sharing lists they describe as the “official final list” for the presidential, National Assembly, governorship, and state assembly elections.

Verification

To verify the claim, official publications by INEC and reports from credible media organizations were examined.

The findings show:

INEC has released the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Elections, including dates for party primaries, submission of nominations, publication of candidates’ particulars, and publication of the final list of candidates.

INEC Announces Campaign Timetable For 2027 General Elections –

According to the revised timetable:

Political parties submit nomination forms within the period prescribed by INEC.

The personal particulars of presidential and National Assembly candidates are published for public scrutiny, after which objections and substitutions may still occur within the legal timeframe.

2027: PDP, APC upload gov candidates on INEC portal

INEC has begun publishing the personal particulars (Form EC9 and supporting documents) of nominated candidates, including those for the presidential election, in compliance with the Electoral Act 2026. However, this is not the same as publishing the final list of candidates.

INEC Publishes Tinubu, Obi, Atiku, Others’ Credentials For 2027 …

INEC’s election timetable states that the official final list of candidates for the 2027 General Elections will be published later, after the completion of the nomination, substitution, and objection processes. For example, reports on the timetable indicate that the final list for the presidential and National Assembly elections is scheduled for publication on 15 November 2026.

While some media reports have referred to a “preliminary list” of presidential candidates, these should not be confused with INEC’s legally recognized final list of candidates.

INEC Publishes Preliminary List Of Sowore, Tinubu, Atiku, Obi, 15 …

Verdict

False.

INEC has not officially published the final list of candidates for the 2027 General Elections. What the Commission has released so far are the election timetable, public display of nominated candidates’ particulars, and preliminary candidate information as required by law. The official final list of candidates will only be published after all legal processes, including substitutions and the resolution of objections, have been completed.
