CDD Hosts Inter-Group Transformative Dialogue to Strengthen Community Resilience Against Disinformation in Benue

The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD West Africa) has hosted an Inter-Group Transformative Dialogue as part of its Strengthening Community Resilience Against Disinformation and Hate Speech in Northern Nigeria project.

The dialogue brought together members of established community structures from participating Local Government Areas in Benue State to engage in constructive and transformative conversations on the growing challenges posed by misinformation, disinformation and hate speech.

The session provided a platform for participants to share experiences, identify factors that contribute to the spread of false and harmful information, and explore practical approaches to strengthening community resilience.

Discussions also focused on the importance of responsible information sharing, community engagement, fact-checking and promoting peaceful communication, particularly in communities where misinformation and hate speech can deepen existing tensions.

The initiative is aimed at empowering community stakeholders with the knowledge and tools required to identify misleading information, counter harmful narratives and promote more informed and peaceful communities.

Participants reaffirmed the need for stronger collaboration among community structures, media practitioners, civil society organisations and other stakeholders in addressing the spread of misinformation and hate speech across Benue State.

The Inter-Group Transformative Dialogue forms part of CDD West Africa’s broader efforts to strengthen community resilience and promote social cohesion in Northern Nigeria.
