Former Secretary to the Benue State Government (SSG), Prof. David Salifu, has reportedly died after an attack by suspected armed herders along the Wukari–Makurdi road.
According to available information, Prof. Salifu was travelling from Wukari in Taraba State to Makurdi, Benue State, when his vehicle came under attack by armed men believed to be suspected herders. He reportedly sustained gunshot injuries during the incident.
Despite efforts to save his life, Prof. Salifu was later confirmed dead from the injuries he sustained.
The tragic incident has heightened concerns over the persistent insecurity along major highways linking Benue and neighbouring states, with residents once again calling for stronger security measures to protect commuters.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had not issued an official statement regarding the attack, while further details surrounding the circumstances of the incident were still being awaited.
