Court Approves Hearing Of Suit Seeking Security For Peter Obi

The Federal High Court in Abuja has approved the hearing of a suit seeking to compel President Bola Tinubu to provide maximum security for the Nigerian Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The suit was filed by lawyers Okere Kingdom Nnamdi and Joseph Enemona Amen, alongside the Incorporated Trustees of Rights For All, seeking a declaration that Obi’s constitutional right to life and protection from intimidation and harassment should be upheld.

The applicants also asked the court to declare as unlawful the alleged remarks by Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo that Obi’s security could not be guaranteed in the state without obtaining clearance from him.

President Tinubu, the Attorney-General of the Federation, the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Services, the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and Governor Okpebholo were named as defendants, while the court is yet to fix a hearing date.
